Morocco has seen an impressive jump in tomato exports to Norway this season, according to EastFruit. From July 2024 to March 2025, Morocco shipped 5,000 metric tons of tomatoes to Norway, a 37.9% increase compared to the same period last season, and 28.9% more than the total volume for the whole previous season. This marks a new seasonal record for Moroccan tomato exports to Norway, highlighting the country’s rising status as a major global supplier.
Since 2021, Morocco has secured its spot among the world’s top three tomato exporters. Tomatoes are the backbone of Morocco’s fruit and vegetable exports, leading in both volume and earnings. Major markets like France, the UK, and the Netherlands value Moroccan tomatoes for their high quality and competitive prices. While Norway is a smaller market, its importance is growing, especially in winter, when the demand for imported tomatoes rises.
Morocco supplies Norway with tomatoes all year, but exports peak between November and March. This season, January set a new record, with 1,150 metric tons shipped, the highest monthly volume ever sent to Norway.
Morocco currently ranks as the third-largest tomato supplier to Norway, just behind Spain and the Netherlands, which together made up nearly 70% of Norway’s tomato imports in the 2023/24 season. However, while exports from Spain and the Netherlands are falling, Morocco’s market share keeps growing. Back in the 2019/20 season, Moroccan tomatoes had only a 6% share in Norway. By 2022/23, that grew to 22%, and in the first nine months of the 2024/25 season, it has already passed 29%. With three months left in the season, Morocco is not only on track to break its export record but could soon overtake the Netherlands as Norway’s second-largest supplier.
Beyond tomatoes, Morocco is also expanding its exports to Norway with popular products like mandarins, blueberries, and frozen raspberries. These additions strengthen Morocco’s image as a trusted supplier of top-quality produce and help diversify its agricultural exports.
Morocco’s ability to overcome challenges and grow its exports confirms its position as a global leader in the tomato industry. This record-breaking season in Norway highlights the country’s agricultural strength and smart market strategy.
