Morocco sets new record for raspberry exports to the Middle East

Recent data shows Morocco’s successful expansion into key markets such as Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, and Qatar. This success is due to good seasonal timing, high product quality, and targeted market strategies.

During the first nine months of the 2024/25 marketing year, Morocco exported over 700 metric tons of fresh raspberries to Middle Eastern countries. This is more than the exports in both 2022/23 and 2023/24, setting a new record for the region.

While the Middle East is still a small part of Morocco’s total raspberry exports, it is growing fast. In 2019/20, the region represented only 0.23% of total exports. This rose to 1.05% in 2022/23 and 0.93% in 2023/24. In 2024/25, the share has already passed 1.5%.

Moroccan raspberry exports to the Middle East usually run from August to June, with peak months in October–November and February–May. October 2024 was the best month ever, with over 200 metric tons shipped—more than the total of 2019/20 and 2020/21 combined.

Morocco currently exports fresh raspberries to seven Middle Eastern countries. The UAE and Saudi Arabia make up about 75% of these exports. Exports to Kuwait have tripled in the last three years, while shipments to Jordan have doubled. UAE imports have increased by 67% over the same period. As the 2024/25 season is still ongoing, volumes may grow even more.

Morocco’s market share in these countries is also rising. In the UAE, it went from 7% to 15% over the past three marketing years. In Kuwait, from 0.2% to 5%. In Qatar, from 6% to 10%. In Bahrain, from 6% to 22%, and in Jordan, from 0.3% to 22%.

Morocco is the second-largest raspberry exporter in the world in 2024. Its presence in the Middle East continues to grow, making the region an increasingly important market for Moroccan berries.

At the same time, Morocco is also increasing its raspberry exports to the United Kingdom, helping to diversify its export markets.
