Our Story – From pioneering Moroccan roots to global agriculture

For several generations, the Zahidi family has embodied boldness and innovation in agriculture.

From the first tomato exports to international agricultural conferences, Green Smile carries a unique heritage and a vision turned toward the future.

This legacy, both family and professional has shaped a company that combiness tradition, modernity, and international openness, positioning itself today as a key player in sustainable agriculture in Morocco and Africa.

The story of Green Smile is rooted in Oualidia, on Morocco’s Atlantic coast. Known for its fertile land and mild climate, this region has always been favorable to vegetable cultivation. It is here that the Zahidi family built its agricultural identity, combining hard work, respect for natural cycles, and intergenerational knowledge transfer.

In this agricultural cradle, Siham Zahidi’s grandfather made history by becoming the first Moroccan to export tomatoes. At a time when Morocco was only beginning to open to international markets, this bold step disrupted traditions and proved that Moroccan agriculture could meet the highest global standards. His pioneering spirit paved the way for new ambitions, inspiring growers to broaden their horizons and professionalize their practices.

The story of Green Smile is above all that of a pioneering family that has always sought to innovate and raise the standards of Moroccan agriculture.

From the grandfather’s audacity to the new generation’s vision, each step reflects one will: to build a modern, sustainable, and competitive agriculture able to rival international standards.

Mohammed Zahidi – Builder of modern agriculture

The pioneer’s son, Mohammed Zahidi, continued this legacy with equal determination. An agronomist and seasoned producer, he became the first exporter of cherry tomatoes in Morocco. Through diversification, he responded to the European market’s demand for new high-quality products.

But his impact went further. Observing Spanish practices, Mohammed Zahidi understood early on that greenhouse cultivation was a revolution for Morocco. He adapted these techniques locally, improving yields, quality, and competitiveness.

Based in Agadir, Morocco’s agricultural hub, he devoted his career to export farming. At the helm of his farm, he applied a demanding vision based on agronomic performance, compliance with international standards, and permanent adaptation to market needs. His rigorous approach elevated Moroccan produce to international recognition.

Siham Zahidi – Field experience and human resource management

The story does not stop there. The new generation, embodied by Siham Zahidi, brought fresh momentum. Before co-founding Green Smile, she managed the family farm for six years, an experience that grounded her in the daily realities of farming.

She took full responsibility: crop planning, agronomic monitoring, logistics, and above all, human resource management. This human dimension taught her that farm success relies not only on technical innovation but also on the motivation and empowerment of people working the land.

Facing climate risks, market fluctuations, and quality demands, she built a pragmatic and strategic vision. She realized that Moroccan agriculture’s future depended on continuous training, diffusion of innovation, and international cooperation.

It was this father-daughter complementarity that gave birth to Green Smile in May 2009. The company embodies both family heritage and a modern, strategic vision. Mohammed contributed his technical expertise and producer’s rigor, while Siham infused an approach centered on training, innovation, and global networking.

Since its creation, Green Smile has acted as a catalyst for innovation and professionalization. The company has promoted soilless cultivation in Morocco, now adopted by nearly 40% of the growers it supports.

It organizes major international events such as the Morocco Berry Conference and the Morocco Tomato Conference, gathering thousands of participants every year. It also supports growers in transitioning to sustainable practices, such as rational irrigation and reduced chemical inputs.
