The EU bought 14% more fruits and vegetables from Morocco in early 2025

During the first quarter of 2025, the European Union imported fruits and vegetables from Morocco worth 1.121 billion euros, which is 14% more than in the same period in 2024.

This increase continues the growth seen in recent years. Tomatoes remain the most imported Moroccan vegetable in the EU, with a value of 369 million euros in the first quarter, 2% more than the same period last year. Next come peppers with 90 million euros (+7%) and green beans with 68 million euros (-11%), according to Eurostat figures analyzed by Fepex.

However, the volume of these vegetables imported into the EU has decreased. Tomato imports dropped by 10%, reaching 188,259 tons. Pepper imports slightly declined to 63,669 tons (-1%), and green bean imports fell more sharply to 27,990 tons (-16%).

Fruit imports grew significantly during the first quarter. Avocados showed the biggest increase: the EU imported 62,680 tons, more than double the amount compared to the same period last year (+101%), worth 176.7 million euros (+79%).

Eurostat data confirm a steady increase in fruit and vegetable imports from Morocco. Between 2023 and 2024, the total volume went up from 1,369,063 tons to 1,419,153 tons (+4%), and the value rose from 2.509 billion euros to 2.713 billion euros (+8%).

Over these two years, tomato imports increased by 18%, from 492,438 tons to 579,815 tons, while their value went up by 3%, from 972 million euros to 999 million euros.
