Morocco has reached a milestone in blueberry exports, setting a new record for the 2023/24 season (July to June). The country significantly increased its presence and growth across all major export markets.
In the most recent season, Morocco exported an impressive 67,300 tons of fresh blueberries, marking a 25% increase from the previous season. This achievement is even more striking as it represents nearly a fourfold increase in Moroccan blueberry exports since the 2017/18 season. During this time, Spain’s dominance as the primary market for Moroccan blueberries declined, with its share dropping from 80% to 30%.
Despite this shift, Spain remained the largest market for Moroccan blueberries in the 2023/24 season, with shipments growing by 11% to reach 20,100 tons. Other European markets also saw positive growth. Exports to the United Kingdom rose by nearly one-third to 14,600 tons, to the Netherlands by 42% to 14,500 tons, to Germany by 25% to 4,300 tons, and to France by 19% to 3,900 tons.
Beyond Europe, Morocco expanded its blueberry exports to the Middle East, shipping 1,800 tons to key markets like the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, and Bahrain. In North America, Moroccan exporters increased their shipments to 360 tons to the United States and 900 tons to Canada.
Southeast Asia, including Hong Kong, Singapore, and Malaysia, remains a crucial market for Moroccan blueberries in Asia. Morocco is now among the top five largest suppliers in this region.
