Surexport, headquartered in Huelva, has advanced its strategic plan by acquiring a majority stake in Dutch strawberry producer Jong Fruit. This strategic move is geared towards reinforcing Surexport’s foothold in Northern Europe and achieving year-round production.
Jong Fruit specializes in year-round strawberry cultivation, boasting 24 hectares of glasshouse production, and focuses on the exclusive Inspire variety, already part of Surexport’s offerings in Spain. The founders and key managers of Jong Fruit, Arian de Jong and Rob van der Wouw, will continue leading the business alongside Surexport. This collaboration aims to tap into synergies and opportunities, especially in the international soft fruit platform. Rob van der Wouw expressed confidence in the decision to sell shares to Surexport, emphasizing their shared passion for the Inspire variety. Arian de Jong looks forward to leading the platform for Surexport in Northwest Europe as the managing director. This acquisition aligns with Surexport’s growth strategy, expanding its geographical production capacity into Northwest Europe and ensuring a more robust year-round supply of berries to key European retailers. Surexport’s CEO, Andrés Morales, sees this acquisition as a perfect fit within their growth strategy, strengthening their presence in Northwest Europe and positioning themselves as a leading European berry producer.
Since Alantra PE’s majority stake acquisition in 2021, Surexport has pursued an ambitious buy-and-build strategy and organic growth plan, aiming to achieve around €340 million in total revenue by the end of the 23/24 campaign.
